PETALING JAYA: Dusuki Mokhtar has been appointed as the new attorney-general (AG).

Dusuki replaces Ahmad Terrirudin Salleh, who has been appointed as a Federal Court judge.

Chief secretary to the government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to Dusuki’s appointment, in accordance with Article 145(1) of the Federal Constitution.

“The government expresses its sincere gratitude to Terrirudin for his service to the nation during his tenure as attorney-general,” he said in a statement today.

Dusuki is currently the head of the trial and appellate division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

In August, FMT reported Dusuki as one of the several senior officers from the judicial and legal services who are front-runners to replace Terrirudin.

Dusuki, 57, has 31 years of legal experience and holds degrees in law from the International Islamic University Malaysia and the University of Wollongong, Australia.

During his time at the appellate and trial division at the AGC, Dusuki was involved in high-profile legal cases, such as deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s 47 charges of corruption, money laundering and criminal breach of trust.

Zahid was later granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) after the prosecution applied for it.

Dusuki later explained in a statement the 11 reasons why Zahid was granted a DNAA.
