Md Rayhan to be expelled after investigations completed

PUTRAJAYA: The Bangladeshi man Md Rayhan Kabir, who appeared in the controversial Al Jazeera documentary ‘Locked Up in Malaysia’s Lockdown’ will be expelled from Malaysia once investigations are completed, said Immigration Department director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud.

“I cannot estimate when (Md Rayhan will be repatriated) but the earliest flight to Bangladesh will be on Aug 31,” he told a press conference here today.

Md Rayhan was arrested in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, on July 24 after the Immigration Department sought people’s assistance to track down the individual in Al Jazeera documentary.

In the documentary, Md Rayhan had shared his views on how illegal immigrants were being treated by the Malaysian authorities when the country was under the Movement Control Order (MCO) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Khairul Dzaimee said that Md Rayhan’s temporary visitor’s pass was also revoked and he would be blacklisted from ever coming to Malaysia again. – Bernama
