From gym to wet market: Fitness trainer thanks M’sians for show of support

Chin Jie Xun, a fitness trainer whose willingness to work in a wet market touched the hearts of Malaysians, has thanked the public for their outpouring of support.

The 34-year-old has been receiving a lot of attention after The Star ran a story on his decision to work in a wet market when his income as a personal trainer and kickboxing coach dried up due to the movement control order (MCO).

Chin said he hoped his story would be able to “wake” up people who were emotional and having a hard time.

He said no matter how hard things got,”you don’t give up”.

“A few years later, you will feel that this is nothing. It is not a big deal,” he said.

Chin added that he would continue to do good work.

“I saw a lot of comments saluting me. And since my dad has always reminded me to be polite, I want to salute all of you too,” he said.

On Wednesday (June 3), The Star ran a cover story on job-seekers who got out of their comfort zone to earn a living by doing another job following the MCO.

Chin was one of the people featured in the story. His job at a wet market earned him about RM80 to RM100 for six hours of labour.
