A man was seen scolding Parti Warisan Sabah candidate Datuk Karim Bujang in a 28-second video clip. The disgruntled man then put up a Barisan Nasional flag at his house.
Although the Monday incident seemed to be a misunderstanding between him and Karim’s officials, it took an unexpected turn when the man decided to join Umno.
Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin confirmed that the man had joined Umno and said the party was unaware of the reasons for the scolding.
“We don’t know what the problem was. The man came on his own to join Umno and support Barisan, ” he said after a ceramah at Kampung Kuala Mandahan here on Monday.
Karim had told the media earlier that the man was unhappy that he was not given the ketua kampung (village chief) position.
The Kimanis by-election is a straight fight between Karim and Barisan’s Datuk Mohamad Alamin, with incumbent former Umno MP Datuk Seri Anifah Aman staying out of the race after holding the seat since 1990.
